    • Scale and Polish
    • White fillings on front teeth

Domicilliary Visits

NHS dentist GlasgowWe understand that elderly patients may find it hard to get out and attend the dentist that’s why at 1Smile Dental Clinics, our dentists offer domiciliary visits. We will arrange a time that suits you best to come out to your house and we will do as much treatment as possible in the care of your own home.

What treatment am I not allowed under the NHS?

All dental treatment considered as cosmetic work is not allowed under the NHS. Treatments such as:

  • White fillings on back teeth
  • Implants
  • All porcelain crown and bridges
  • Orthodontic treatment such as 6 Months Smile and Fastbraces®
  • Tooth whitening

Mixing NHS and Private dental treatments

We are unable to mix an NHS course of treatment with any private treatment on the same tooth for example:

If you require  root canal treatment on a back tooth the NHS only allows us to place a silver amalgam filling on top. Although if you want a white filling on top then the original NHS root canal treatment becomes a private course of treatment and you will have to pay our private fee for the root canal treatment and filling.

However this does not mean that you cannot have private treatment if you are an NHS patient. You can mix NHS and private treatment on the same treatment plan just not on the same tooth.

NHS Prior approval

If your NHS Dentist Glasgow informs you that you need a lot of  dental treatment then they may mention that they have to apply for a prior approval. This means that they have to ask the NHS Health Board for permission to carry on with the dental treatment due to costs. Each patient has a limit of £350 per course of treatment but sometimes if the patients requires a lot of work and it is more expensive than £350 then the dentist needs permission to carry on with the treatment.

After the prior approval has been sent to  the NHS Health Board, the waiting time is usually around 6-8 weeks and they will inform us if they agree with the treatment planned or not.

The decision is entirely up to the NHS Health Board and has nothing to do with your dentist. Our dentists will always fully explain the prior approval procedure and the dental treatment needed before we send anything to the NHS Health Board.
